Saint Paul Public Schools is "Rethinking School Start Times."
Check out the link below to learn more... http://www.spps.org/starttimes Hello Wonderful Working Group Members!
Thank you for your time and work at today’s session. Here is a recap of what the group accomplished: · We reviewed some of the feedback that Jill and Brandon received from last meeting. The majority of the group voted to keep the subgroups the way they are functioning now (that is, have all subgroup members gathering feedback for BOTH calendar and school start times). The group was also feeling positive about the organization and efficiency of the meetings. · We looked once more at the Interview Template and finalized that document. WOO HOO! Attached is the newest version of the Interview Template. Please remember these interviews are flexible and can allow for you to ask further questions related to your specific subgroup. · Once we had the best version of the Interview Template that we could create right now, subgroups worked together to identify tasks that could get done before our June meeting. At this time, we also used padlet.com to view the stakeholders that each group planned to interview. · Using Form 2, subgroups assigned members with “homework” to complete before our June meeting. Please check out the attached Form 2 to see if your group assigned you a task J · We dismissed at 4:35 today, so we could all get out and enjoy the beautiful weather. J If you were not able to join us today, please complete the following: 1. Review the attached scans of Form 2 your group created today. See what (if anything,) your subgroup assigned you to do before the next meeting. 2. If you were not assigned a task, look at the attached screenshot of our Padlet forum and choose a stakeholder to interview. 3. Our working group’s goal was for each individual to complete one interview by our next meeting. Here is the link to the Google folder, where you can find files like today’s presentation, the newest Interview Template, the group’s roster of today’s meeting, a scanned PDF of Form 2, and much more. Unfortunately, the battery in our camera died during the session so we do not have video footage of today’s work. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B-scOJ0aSC9cfmdPUTc2RlJObFg1M3hjRmE2Z0hibG5hSTc0ZG1acWJuSzlKbUVxWHFkcHM&authuser=0 Thanks again everyone! See you on June 30th! -Brandon and Jill Hello Awesome Calendar Working Group Members!
First, we would like to thank you for the time that you put in to the process today. While editing the interview template may have seemed slow and arduous, we got some great work done. Here is a recap of what we accomplished:
As a reminder, video footage of this session as well as the PowerPoint may be viewed in our Google Folder: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B-scOJ0aSC9cfjluTnFqNXhxZzJCUXN1LWZWX1VSYUdoOTNqa1ltak4zWFMxejZONG9xX1E&authuser=0 We look forward to seeing you all again next Tuesday, May 26th! Please bring an electronic device to this meeting once again. -Brandon and Jill Greetings All,
Thank you for your work and brainpower in today’s meeting. Brandon and I had a great time facilitating this important work. Here is a summary of the work we did today:
Also, Brandon has created a Google Folder where we will store relevant documents to our work. He has uploaded today’s presentation, as well as each subgroup’s Form 1. Form 1 lists the subgroup members and their initial brainstorming of tasks. The link to the Google Folder is below: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B-scOJ0aSC9cfjluTnFqNXhxZzJCUXN1LWZWX1VSYUdoOTNqa1ltak4zWFMxejZONG9xX1E&usp=sharing Remember, there is no homework to be completed before the next meeting. If you have any questions, please contact Jill Rollie ([email protected]) and/or Brandon Button ([email protected]) Finally, Jill will be sending calendar requests for the three upcoming meetings:
-Brandon and Jill Thank you for your willingness to participate in our study of the calendar and start time recommendations brought forward from the original calendar working group. The organizational meeting of our Calendar Study Group is set for Monday, March 16, at 3:30 pm in the Media Center at Austin High School. Jill Rollie and Brandon Button, facilitators of the original Calendar Working Group, will start things off by providing a review of the group’s work. We will look at the process going forward as well as establish a meeting schedule for both sub-committee groups.
We hope you will be able to join us. For those of you from outside the school district, the most convenient entrance would be through door #3 (with the red awning) on the north side of Austin High School. If you are unable to attend the first meeting, we will send a follow up e-mail with the details about future sub-committee meetings. We look forward to seeing you on March 16 at 3:30 pm. Austin Public School Parents: The Calendar Working Group provided two recommendations to the School Board in January of 2015.
With the School Board's consideration of the recommendations and next steps, we want to invite you to participate in Austin Public Schools "Calendar Working Group" or "School Start Time Working Group." The purpose of these groups is to look at the work, data and recommendations of the original Calendar Working Group and provide detailed recommendations to the School Board for possible implementation or not to implement. The working group meetings will be determined once the membership of each has been determined with work to begin no later than March 16. The timeframe will also be determined by each working group guided by the scope of work each has to accomplish. Anyone wishing to volunteer may participate in these working groups. If you are unable to participate in either of the working groups, there will be opportunities provided during their process for input from individuals at other times. The working groups will be reviewing the work of the original Calendar Working Group as stated above, new data if available, as well as looking at impact of changes on students, parents, staff and community. Group members will have access to all data online. To help the groups accomplish their tasks, volunteers must complete all the assigned work and be able to attend all meetings. If you are interested in participating, please sign up by contacting Sharon Alms at 507-460-1900 or by email at [email protected] by Friday, February 27. Thank you for considering participation. Sincerely, David Krenz Superintendent Austin Public Schools Dear Calendar Working Group Members,
This evening we attended the school board working session to discuss our group’s recommendation. After approximately 45 minutes of round table discussion, the school board members agreed to continue with further investigation into an 8:30 or later start time for grades 5-12 and a district-wide balanced calendar. Next, district administration will be assembling a plan to create additional working groups to delve into the logistics of these recommendations for Austin Public Schools. Throughout tonight’s meetings as well as the initial school board meeting, our working group received OODLES of praise in regards to the work this group has done. Brandon and I would like to thank you again for all of your hard work and commitment. We enjoyed experiencing this process with you. Keep your eyes peeled for any more information from our district administration regarding next steps. You would be an asset to any future conversations surrounding these recommendations. Thanks again… Jill and Brandon: signing off. It’s not goodbye, it’s see you later…
Brandon and I wanted to thank you so much for all of your hard work, patience, and time you committed to this group. Tonight we edited and finalized our school board recommendation, which can be viewed on the Google Folder by clicking on the link below. https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B-scOJ0aSC9cdWZPdWtwSkV6c1U&usp=drive_web Once again if you would like to assist us in presenting this recommendation to the school board, please let us know. Otherwise, I will be sending you a calendar request to be an audience member at the school board meeting. Ta-Ta for now! Jill and Brandon Hello Highly Revered Calendar Working Group Members!
